Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD), is the official development curriculum of the USA Archery Program for youth archers.
JOAD archers using compound or recurve bows train to compete in club, local, regional and national tournaments with USA Archery certified instructors and coaches. By competing at national tournaments, archers can earn a place on the U.S. Youth World Archery Team that competes against other countries. Those archers who shoot a recurve bow can also tryout for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Archery team.
USA Archery has adopted the Biomechanically Efficient Shooting Technique (B.E.S.T. method) as the National Training method. In our affiliation with USA Archery, Desert Sky Archers teaches and trains this process.
Desert Sky JOADs practice on Friday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Ben Avery's Indoor Range. Sessions at the BASF outdoor FITA ranges are scheduled as needed.
Policies and fees for Desert Sky JOAD are as follows:
Ø Desert Sky JOAD archers must be a member of Desert Sky Archers and the USA Archery Association.
Ø Desert Sky Archers yearly membership fees are $35/individual and $65/family.
Ø JOAD fees are $30 per month, per archer. For families participating in the program, the first two children are $30 per child and $20 for each additional child.
Ø All fees are due in advance on the first Friday of each month.
Ø The monthly fees cover the costs for target faces, target butt usage, range fees, and instructor fees. All JOADs in the program who choose to complete will receive one team tournament shirt, and will be able to purchase additional tournament shirts at cost.
Ø JOADs and parents are asked to make a commitment to the Desert Sky Archers JOAD program.
Ø Parents are encouraged to participate with their children and learn along with them. Learning about and participating in archery shows your archer you are supporting them. There will be no additional charge for parents to learn along side their children, but coaching priority is to the JOAD archers first.
