Steve Yee

With heavy hearts, we have lost Steve. Steve has been a coach, mentor, innovator, crusader, and most importantly a friend. His impact on Desert Sky Archers, Arizona Archery and USA Archery has been amazing.

Steve fought for the youth archer. Demanding quality equipment for new and our youngest athletes. Many an Arizona youth archer started their archery career with one of Steve's frankenbows. Most famous is Cookie Monster.

Steve coached many top youth archers here in Arizona and via virtual coaching. Innovating the use of cameras, Skype and other virtual techniques to keep in touch with his archers while he fought with his health.

Steve also was part of the push to bring live electronic scoring even down to the local level tournaments. He worked with Ianseo, BetweenEnds and Rcherz.

Steve's biggest impact was his friendship. He was always ready to sit and talk to a fellow archer. He would jump in and help any archer in need, regardless of club affiliation.

Steve, we will miss you.

This weekend, we were delighted to host one of the final outdoor shoots in the state and we are not disappointed. We were blessed with decent winds and tormented with some heat, but we loved spending our weekend with all of you archers. ❄️ We closed out the second and final day of the Candy Cane Crunch today with great success. We have experienced immense growth with this shoot over the past couple years - from 39 registrations our first year to 123 this weekend - so thank you to everyone for supporting us!

Each year, the ABFAA presents the Copper Arrow Award to an individual who has shown ‘outstanding service and dedication’ to our sport, and we are beyond proud that this years recipient was DSA’s own, Rick Bachman! We would be lost without our president and we are humbled by the boards appreciation. Thank you @caytiebelzner and @stephanielord20 for presenting this this afternoon.

Being able to understand your equipment will better help you trust it. Having the ability to piece together your own equipment will also move the responsibility more onto the archer, encouraging better attention to detail and a sense of independence.

A couple times each year, we help Ben Avery run archery clinics at the indoor range to introduce archery to new families. Today was one of those mornings! We had a wonderfully talented and diverse group of archers, and they all had a wonderful time shooting with us. This group was particularly skilled, so to make things more fun for them, we pinned some clay targets to make it more memorable for the children.

We have three more sessions for this year, which are in August, September, and November. Links to sign up are on DSA’s website under the classes tab.
